The crisis of Indian Democracy 2026



People in India do not question the sanctity of the EVMs.

But, they has started to believe that EC is working with the government to reduce the votes of opposition. The recent reports by reputed Indian Express has started to bring down the impressions that India is a fair democracy.


We would wait for the mood of nation survey of 2027 January, but, the actions of ECI and govt indicate that the government is losing credibility along with the sanctity of Indian democracy.


This does not imply that Democracy is finished, but, we are well on the path for the same.


Favouritism of ECI towards the government in terms of penalising politicians for code of conduct violation has been there for long. But, people of India have always believed that if they want someone out of power, they would do so with their votes. Unfortunately, all of this goes away if the votes are taken away giving one excuse or the other.


The hard fought battles against the enemies of the 'state of India' like the maoists, the separatists of Kashmir and North East would be smothered and the sacrifices of the brave Indians would be toyed with if the credibility of elections in India is not taken seriously. This would give rise to chaos and derail quickly the dream of developed India. 


It is the duty of Narendra Modi and his team to forget about their stint in power and think about nation first, walking the fine line of previous prime minister Chandra Shekhar who ensured a legitimised transfer of power via fair elections in a turbulent India.


What is the need of hour?

Stop if the SIR immediately : India can do with numbers of less voting percentage for now, but, we need to retain the hard fought faith of people of India in its democracy.

Remove the voters name only in 2 conditions : 

Death or migration (to other state or other country).

Otherwise, stop searching for reasons to exclude the people from the election process. 

Before, election commission ran campaigns to include more voters. Now, it seems that campaign is running to reduce the voters.


They will come for you!

Do not think that just because it is not you whose name is not being excluded right now, that the system is good for you. If removing voters gets justified for one reason or ther other, then, the in future there will come reasons to exclude you as well. It might be due to age, it might be due to language, it might even be caste. Once exclusion gets justified, no one is safe. They will come for you one day.


Do not wait for the next election!

Elections are the most direct way for us to exercise our franchise. We chose a party to make decisions for us. But, if the party is not acting in our interests, we must show them and make them understand now itself. Protest now in any possible to stop the government from making the mistake that will go down as the second dark chapter in the Independent Indian history.

Make Modi and his team understand that saving democracy is more important than clinging on to power. Clinging will ensure their loss, course correction now may give them time to do face saving by performance in the next few years.
